Highbury Homes and Instantwaste recycle more than 80% of home building waste.

It’s not uncommon for us to receive positive feedback from our customers about our building sites being tidy and clean. This is because we care about the safety of our tradesmen but also about the environment. Highbury Homes is committed to building smart efficient homes by minimising the environmental footprint of our building sites and reducing waste disposal costs for a more sustainable building process. We firmly believe that this is our responsibility – not only to our customers but also to our environment.

Typically, well over half the construction waste generated in Western Australia ends up in landfill. In fact, WA as a state has the worst record in the country: we produce the most waste per capita and we recycle the least. Over 8 million tons of waste are produced per year and about 55% of this is construction and demolition (C&D) waste. Unfortunately, only 30-40% of this waste is recycled: the rest goes to landfill. At Highbury Homes, we partner with Instantwaste, a leading family operated waste recycling company to collect & recycle our site’s waste. Thanks to to their state-of-the-art-facility, Instantwaste are able to capture between 80 and 90% of all the mix waste of a single bin and divert it away from landfill.

If you are curious on how recycling works, go behind the scenes at Instantwaste’s material recovery facility by watching the video: State Resource Development Manager Jake Hickey will guide you through the successful recycling process with the help of a GoPro camera. After seeing how easy is the process, you’ll wonder why not every home builder has the same commitment to recycling!
